Let’s discover beautiful Semerey apartment designed by talented Ukrainian interior designers Rina Lovko and Daryna Shpuryk, located in a historical building dating 1905, in the old part of Kyiv, for a young woman working in fashion industry and fascinated with Paris. Regardless of russian war in Ukraine, its capital Kyiv and its inhabitants try living their usual lives – the ones they used to have before the invasion – supporting local businesses, opening new places, buying new homes, having dreams. Fingers crossed the war ends soon and we all can visit this charming city as soon as possible and discover all the beautiful places by ourselves.
[block rendering halted]The apartment is located on a 4th floor of a charming building with abundance of light due to large floor-to-ceiling windows, overlooking a quiet green park. However, the state of the apartment was different from the final result we see – a massive renovation, including dismantling rotten slabs and replacing the flooring, needed to be done. The team enhanced the slabs and the walls. The old inner walls were damaged as well by humidity and wood pests, so they couldn’t be saved.
Interior designers decided not to copy “Parisian chic” decor directly, which usually includes heavy ornamental plaster, wood panels and other elements. Instead, they chose to use softer and airy approach by adding a lot of textures, natural materials to create nuanced sophistication.
The original parquet was replaced by similar antique oak parquet, which was toned directly in the apartment. Designers’ goal was to achieve a particular shade to highlight the beauty of the parquet leaving its imperfect marks of time untouched.
“The walls were painted on top of plaster, with the deep texture being left as it is. The angle between walls and ceiling was smoothed out — this was a popular solution for the old flats in Kyiv.”
The apartment’s floor plan is arranged in time-tested enfilade layout, starting from the long and functional hallway, comprising a guest restroom, a laundry and a wardrobe. The bedroom and bathroom are visible from the living room area, which make apartment visually bigger and coherent. Kitchen furniture is divided in 2 blocks – the first one is the work zone with worktop, and another one is a vintage-inspired cabinet with refrigerator and an oven.
The most precious room in this apartment turned out to be the bathroom, located at the very end of the apartment and separated from the bedroom only with dreamy tulle curtains and glass partition. Carefully curated marble slab on shower walls, completes soft looking plastered walls. Presence of the window in the bathroom, one of the special requests of the client, makes interior look even more luxurious. And the placement of the cabinet – right in front of it – makes the experience of a 5 star hotel bathroom.
