Christmas is not about money. It is about gratitude, family, close friends, communication, being together… Christmas is not about competition who has the biggest Christmas tree or who has spent more on decorations. Sometimes you just need to make a step back and think about the real purpose of this holiday. Try to think if you really need these super fancy decorations. Maybe you could donate some money instead of buying and buying things for those who really need to?

Today I am more than inspired to start decorating the Christmas tree. Today we even had some snow, and it inspired, even more, to add some warmth into my home and show you how to decorate a Christmas tree with what you have without almost any expenses. I decided I will use one little branch that will be decorated with only several old-school Christmas decorations and straw Christmas decor. First ones are about 50 years old, my grandparents’ toys that are not more beautiful but still have a lot of warm feelings and value. I decided to spray some gold paint on it (I used car paint I had but you can shop fancier golden or other colour paint for better quality Christmas decorations).

HOW TO DECORATE CHRISTMAS TREE #1: SPRAY YOUR DECORATIONS WITH SOME MAGIC

To begin with, you will need some gold or any other colour spray. I used what I had – some golden car spray. You can use some fancy paint or spray you can find at the stationery store. I just didn’t want to go outside so decided to use what I have. I have put some old papers on the floor because you don’t want your floor look like a Christmas Tree? 🙂 I sprayed everything carefully. Normally you should wait several hours but I am quite impatient so I left it until I finished with my Christmas tree – branch. This is how it looks when I sprayed these little straw snowflakes 🙂

HOW TO DECORATE CHRISTMAS TREE #2: FIND HOME FOR THE BRANCH AND WRAP IT WITH LEDS

I continued with the Christmas tree – branch. As it is quite heavyweight, I decided to attach it to the old wall art crew I had on my wall. If you do not do this, it will just fall down… Except if your branch is much smaller than mine. When the branch had been attached, I put some light garland I found in my closet. I wrapped around my branch very carefully.  Oh, and don’t forget to put your branch into a vase with some water. HOW TO DECORATE CHRISTMAS TREE #3: HANG YOUR HANDMADE CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS

Finally, I started hanging my gold-sprayed Christmas decorations. I wanted my Christmas tree to be light, airy, without many details. Only subtle gold ornaments. This can be called Scandinavian Christmas Tree even if I’m not convinced about uber minimalist Scandi style (just not my style!). But, I love contrasting things and nice, clean, white background (maybe it comes from my photographer background, who knows?)
