Last week I headed to London to participate in the International Interior Blog Awards’ Night, which took place at One Marylebone, a former church, one of the nicest places I’ve ever been to!
In case you missed, my interior blog participated in International Interior Blog Awards by Amara in Best Newcomer Blog category and was shortlisted afterward! Thank you, everyone, who voted for me! In case you popped into this article and don’t know who I am, I am an interior designer and I started this blog last year in addition to my interior design business started in late 2015 to share my love for beautiful design stays and finds, design events I go to (Paris Design Week, Maison & Objet, Fuorisalone etc).
When in July 2018 I got the email from Amara (the organiser) that my interior blog has been nominated, I could not believe my eyes, I needed to read the email like 10 times because I did not nominate myself this year, for sure. I really couldn’t believe that someone took his time to nominate me! So whoever nominated my blog in these awards, thank you!!!
In September 2018, thanks to you all as well as wonderful judges, I got shortlisted amongst 5 other very nice blogs in the Best Newcomer Blog category.
The hall was amazing, could not resist taking a shameless mirror selfie with my childhood friend who was my +1.
Firstly, there was a buffet on the first floor where we were kindly invited to join for a drink and bites.
We even got the chance to have a polaroid photo which is a nice souvenir (would love to have that camera)!
Quite strangely looking smiles, but who cares if we are happy? 🙂
We were then invited to the ceremony hall downstairs.
During the ceremony, charming Michelle Ogundehin (Former Elle Decor UK editor in Chief whose Instagram account is a puuuure joy to follow) with Sam Hood (creative director of Amara) picked the winners from different categories.
I must say I was a bit nervous…
Congratulations to all the winners, you are all amazing!
I didn’t win. I wanted to, of course, (who would not want to, right?), but I feel like I won already something. I can say that I won from the inside because I had the strength to decide to work for myself and start this interior design blog 1 year ago (that completes my interior design studio) and what is the most important, this is my choice. I love what I do. I love designing homes and making clients’ house a home, I love to blog and spread design news to my readers, I love taking photos, I love traveling, discovering places and meeting people… And all this can be done while « working » and not being closed in the office.
Thanks to these awards I felt connected to my domain, I met interesting people, we exchanged ideas and it was a marvelous night. These Awards reminded me that I am on the right path.
I would never exchange this unpaved road that is an absolute happiness for something that is called an office job 9-5.
There are people who will tell that working for yourself is hard, that I won’t manage to reach what I want and who think that I need to do something else, to work for someone else and other stuff. Those are the people who don’t follow their dreams, they prefer to say others what to do while sitting in their warm office chairs, and working for someone’s dreams.
Events like this lead one step closer to my dreams. A great reminder that I write and that my readers care. I don’t blog or create designs for myself, I just want to make people smile and tell that I made them happy.
I could realise how happy I am with what I do only when I came back from London and when everything calmed down a bit. All these emotions, colleagues, idols show that everything is possible and that I am on the right path.
This warrior pose, taken after the awards night (I made the best I could wearing this dress^^), concludes every word said above. For all the freelancers out there, we are the warriors paving our own roads that lead to happiness. Don’t give up!
Dream big, stay positive, work hard, and enjoy the journey.
For those who know me, I love yoga! It was the best warrior pose I could do with this dress and a 10kg bag full of goodies haha!
